International Conference on The Right to Access to Essential Medicines and IP Rights

ELSA Leicester and ELSA UK are excited to invite you to our first international eventThis conference will look at the aspects of the right to access essential medicines in contrast with the intellectual property rights that companies hold.There will be a combination of roundtables and a final plenary.

Speakers

Prof. Vincezo Salvatore
Director of Legal Services – European Medical Agency

From 1991 to 2004, Prof. Salvatore worked as an avvocato (qualified lawyer) in private practice – both arbitration and litigation – mainly dealing with public procurement, competition, international trade and contracts. He also worked as a research assistant in international law at the University of Pavia from 1992 to 1999 and as Associate Professor of International Law at the University of Insubria from 1999 to 2003.

He has been Chair Professor of International Law at the University of Insubria since 2004.

He joined the European Medicines Agency as Head of the Legal Sector in November 2004 and was appointed Data Protection Officer in July 2005.

Prof. Gianluca Contaldi
Professor of International Law – University of Macerata, Italy

Gianluca Contaldi is Professor of International Law at the University of Macerata. Author of numerous publications, especially in the fields of private international law and procedural law and European Union law, he is an expert in recognition of trusts, the freedom of movement of companies, international contracts, problems of jurisdiction in cross-border disputes and the international protection of intellectual property.

He also is a registered lawyer and regularly appears as Counsel before the highest national and international courts and tribunals. His practice focuses on International law, European Union Law, and Administrative Law.

On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th  ELSA Leicester will be hosting the ELSA UK NCM 2012. Participants at the conference are welcome to stay for one or both days. Alternatively  we will be organising a day Trip to London.

Fees

The Final Lecture is free of charge and open to everyone. We will shortly post the event registration form

For International Guests

ELSA Members from favored countries:
27 euros per night

ELSA Members from non favored countries:
32 euros per night

ELSA Alumni:
40 euros per night

Non ELSA Member:
45 euros per night

There is an additional charge of 15 euros for the London trip. We are currently trying to get this subsidised so the charge might vary. In any case this will be the maximum fee that you will pay.


The participation fee covers administration costs, accommodation, participation, meals, and the social programme.

How to get here

East Midlands Airport

The nearest airport to Leicester is East Midlands Airport, which serves Leicester, Derby and Nottingham. Ryanair and other low cost airlines, serve the airport has direct flights to more than 90 destinations in 28 countries as well as many internal flights within the UK. The Leicester Skylink bus service connects East Midlands Airport with St Margaret’s Bus Station, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Skylink buses run every 30 minutes during the day and hourly at night. See the coach page for details of how to get from St Margaret’s to the University.

Other Airports

There are rail services from Leicester to Birmingham Airport (via Coleshill Parkway), Luton Airport (via Luton Aiport Parkway) and Stansted Airport. There is a direct coach service from Leicester to Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport.
